The UVA Chamber Music Series presents the second concert of the 2024-2025 Series on Sunday, October 20th, 2024, at 3:30 pm in Old Cabell Hall on the UVA Grounds.

The second concert of the UVA Chamber Music Series features faculty chamber ensembles.

The repertoire of the recital includes works by Austrian and French composers. It begins with Jacques Ibert’s Cinq Pièces en Trio, a neo-classical piece consisting of five movements. The longest movement is under three minutes, while the shortest is less than one minute. It will be performed by Kelly Peral (oboe), Jiyeon Choi (clarinet), and Elizabeth Roberts (bassoon).

The second piece is Joseph Haydn’s String Quartet Op. 71, No. 1, the first of three quartets in Opus 71. This will be performed by the Rivanna String Quartet, featuring Dan Sender and David Sariti (violins), Ayn Balija (viola), and Adam Carter (cello).

After intermission, a woodwind quartet will perform Jean Françaix’s Quatuor à vents. Its four movements follow a traditional arrangement of fast-slow-dance-fast, providing welcome moments of lyrical repose amid the otherwise mirthful exuberance. It will be performed by Kelly Sulick (flute), Kelly Peral (oboe), Jiyeon Choi (clarinet), and Elizabeth Roberts (bassoon).

The final piece of the recital is Jean-Baptiste Barrière’s Sonata for Two Cellos in G Major. This will be performed by László Pólus, a visiting Fulbright scholar from Hungary, along with Adam Carter.
