COMMUNITY EVENT • Cville Chamber Music Festival IV
PROGRAM
Brahms String Sextet No. 1 in B-Flat Major, Op. 18
The sextet for 2 violins, 2 violas and 2 cellos is one of Brahms's most enveloping creations. With its dark sonorities, it's like a warm, beautiful woven garment.
Performed by Simone Porter and Blake Pouliot, violins; Jennifer Stumm and Timothy Summers, violas; Raphael Bell and Raman Ramakrishnan, cellos
Beethoven 33 Variations on a Waltz by Anton Diabelli
Invited by the music publisher Diabelli to submit a single variation on a little tune for an anthology, Beethoven, of course, couldn't restrain himself and sent 32: Ingenious, humorous, experimental, wild, tender - it's all there in Beethoven's magnum opus for the piano. Don't miss the rare chance to hear the piece performed live at the Festival.
performed by Benjamin Hochman, piano
"...stylistic insight, elegance and sparkle" - review of Hochman in The New York Times
