The Way We See It centers the perspectives of children living in container camps after the 2023 earthquakes in southeastern Türkiye and northern Syria.

The Way We See It centers the perspectives of children living in container camps after the 2023 earthquakes in southeastern Türkiye and northern Syria. Using disposable cameras, children ages 5 to 10 documented their everyday lives over two weeks—capturing moments of care, play, resilience, and meaning within constrained and uncertain spaces.

Artist Bio

Lucy Bassett is a professor of practice in public policy at the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy at the University of Virginia. Bassett works with children, caregivers, and communities around the world, using participatory and creative approaches. She is the recipient of the UVA Library Art in Library Spaces and the UVA Provost for the Arts Prize.
