When I thought about what it means to be a UVA student today, I found myself focusing on some of the alums who serve as an inspiration to me.

  • Dr. Cameron Webb, a physician, attorney, and COVID Policy Advisor for the Biden Admin.
  • Georgia O’Keeffe, the “mother of American modernism” and one of the most influential artists of all time.
  • Abigail Spanberger, the current Representative for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District.
  • Will Shortz. a crossword puzzle creator and editor for the New York Times.

These alumni inspire me not only because they’re employed in fields I’m interested in, but because they used those fields to make an impact on the world through their creativity.

To be a UVA student is to be innovative. To be a UVA student is to have a passion for learning and to improve your community with that passion.
