CreativeMornings Charlottesville with PK Ross on REFLECTION

Representation Matters: Embracing Spite as a Creative Modality

"The nuts and bolts go: Having come to Charlottesville for University, I stuck around with no real purpose. Having stumbled into foodservice, I bought the gelato shop where I had been the production manager in 2010 and have been a pain in the ass ever since.

I think I’m a fair hand at making food, at the very least more than competent at making gelato flavors that make people wonder. My dog is at least 70% of my personality. Mental illness is the rest of the percentage, which I adjudge to be as good a ratio as anything."

Our theme for September is REFLECTION. It was chosen by our Oklahoma City chapter and illustrated by Aditi Heins.

Just like an echo is a reflection of sound… and how a camera lens focuses reflected light to form a photograph… our subconscious reflects on our experiences to form our beliefs.

Reflection turns our traumas and triumphs into lessons. It’s how we can create a vision for a brighter future.

CreativeMornings is a free, monthly breakfast lecture series for the creative community. It happens in 223 cities in 67 countries around the world. Charlottesville is the 180th chapter, and your local hosts are Jeremy Stern, Emma Terry, and Maureen Brondyke. There will be a creative lecture (generally) on the 3rd Friday of each month centered around a global theme picked by CreativeMorning chapters around the world! Stay tuned for updates as we announce the theme and speaker on the first of the month. Registration opens at 10 am the Monday before the event!
