The Fralin Downtown Film Series Presents: See Memory

What if memory is not a fixed record of the past, but something shaped — and reshaped — by imagination, emotion, and connection?
SEE MEMORY is a hand-painted documentary created from over 30,000 painted frames that brings art and neuroscience into rare dialogue. Through the story of a young woman moving between past and present, the film explores how memories form, fracture, and evolve — and how healing can begin when our inner experiences are witnessed and shared.
Drawing on research from leading neuroscientists and clinicians, including Nobel Laureate Eric Kandel, Mount Sinai neuroscientist Dr. Daniela Schiller, and psychiatrist and narrative medicine pioneer Dr. Paul Browde, SEE MEMORY translates complex science into a visual language that is felt as much as understood.
At once meditative and rigorous, SEE MEMORY invites viewers to reflect on the fluid nature of memory, the role of storytelling in shaping identity, and the capacity of art to open new pathways toward understanding and repair.
This program is supported by The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia. The Fralin Downtown Film Series is a partnership between The Fralin and the Violet Crown Charlottesville, highlighting independent films related to art and artists.
