Dancing skeletons, spooky pumpkins, bubbling cauldrons and a haunted house will all make appearances on the exterior of UVA’s Rotunda in celebration of Halloween this year!!

Friday - Tuesday, October 27-31 7-11pm
UVA's Rotunda Open to the Public  FREE

Vignettes accompanied by haunting music will cycle over the outside of the centerpiece of the University, transforming the iconic building into a massive movie screen. The mini-shows might transform the Rotunda into a graveyard with jolly, dancing skeletons, a haunted house or an animated Halloween music box, with a rising moon and rotating, ghoulish pumpkins, caldrons, and purple skulls. You will have to come see to find out!!

Thanks to UPC, there will be great events to accompany the Projection Mapping!!

October 28: Start of this Halloween weekend with arts n’ crafts! Members can build their own bears or create cute bracelets to accessorize their costumes. Snacks will also be provided!

October 29: Come join us with a warm celebration of the autumn season with warm drinks such as hot chocolate and apple cider that bring nostalgia of fall spices with every sip and delightful snacks like donuts to fill our hungry bellies! We will also distribute pajama pants that will keep you cozy in the cool night’s air.

October 30: Get into the festive spirit by painting pumpkins and creating your own jack o’ lantern! What can be better than a little Halloween flare to your room or house. Special glow-in-the-dark face paint and one time tattoos will also be provided for community members and students who would like unleash their creative skills and craft their “own” costume in the spirit of Halloween!

October 31: Welcome to UPC’s Extension of UVA’s Trick or Treat on the Lawn! Members can grab their share of candy/cookies and engage with our photobooth to save this special Halloween for the memories!

Projection mapping plays with the evolving, fluid relationship between technology & art to produce interactive, immersive, and involving experiences. The show offers students and community members a way to experience art with one another. The energetic pop-up projections blend UVA’s prominent architecture with colorful lights and music in hopes of providing an uplifting, joyful, impactful, and engaging encounter that will leave you with a bit of wonder, curiosity, and maybe a new shared experience or memory to draw from.

UVA Arts, the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost and Vice Provost for the Arts, and UPC present The Great Rotumpkin!
