The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY) at the University of Virginia is the University chapter of one of India’s foremost non-profit organizations. Its objective is to bring the rich and diverse culture and heritage of India to communities across the world through Indian music and dance. In doing so, SPICMACAY hopes to bring people from different cultures together and start a conversation about Indian culture. The UVA chapter of SPICMACAY, established in 1990, strives to increase the visibility of Indian classical arts on Grounds. SPICMACAY presents concerts, lecture demonstrations, and small classes to achieve its goal. In the past 31 years, the chapter has organized scores of events featuring leading artists all of whom are preeminent in their fields. SPICMACAY at UVA also promotes talented students and community members by providing a platform for artists to present their work at the annual Indian Classical Night. Events bring hundreds of attendees from all walks of life together to experience the beauty and richness of Indian art forms.
