Charlottesville, VA - April 22, 2024 - The University of Virginia's Arts Grounds will host the SW2 Festival of the Moving Creature on the evening of Friday, April 26th. This highly anticipated event promises an unforgettable experience, featuring two gigantic mythical creatures parading through the UVA Grounds, brought to life by the talented students, faculty, and staff of the Art of the Moving Creature drama department class.

The community is invited to join in the festivities, which will commence at 7:00 PM on UVA Arts Grounds, located on Culbreth Road. The event will begin with a creature parade looping to the Rotunda around sunset, providing spectators with the opportunity to witness these enchanting creatures against the backdrop of a picturesque Virginia sunset. The evening will culminate in a mesmerizing dance party under the stars at UVA Arts Grounds, and will conclude at 10:00 PM.

The SW2 Festival of the Moving Creature pays homage to its namesakes, the late Hollywood special effects legend and distinguished UVA alum Stan Winston, and Steven Warner, a cherished co-founder of the original festival in 2013 and esteemed UVA Drama Assistant Professor. In their honor, this year's festival will unveil new creature designs, showcasing the spirit of innovation and creativity that defines this esteemed event.

This extraordinary festival is made possible through the generous support of UVA Arts, The Jefferson Trust—an initiative of the UVA Alumni Association—the Stan Winston School of Character Arts, the UVA Department of Drama, and the UVA School of Architecture.
