UVA Drama Continues 2023-2024 Season with Branden Jacobs-Jenkins Pulitzer Prize-finalist Play 'Everybody'

'Everybody' offers a darkly comedic twist on a tale about the meaning of life, death, and all that lies between. In the play, Death summons a character called “Everybody,” telling them it is their time to meet their inevitable fate and give an account of their life. Everybody asks a crowd of metaphorical friends, including emblematic figures of Friendship, Kinship, and Stuff, to join them on their journey. While it is a trip we all have to make, 'Everybody' learns that volunteers are few and far between.

Landmark exhibition of Aboriginal Australian bark painting returns to its home institution in February 2024

One of the most significant touring exhibitions of Aboriginal Australian art ever staged returns to the city where it was first envisioned. The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia presents “Maḏayin: Eight Decades of Aboriginal Australian Bark Painting from Yirrkala” from Feb. 3-July 14, 2024. The exhibition features more than 50 masterpieces of ochre painting on eucalyptus bark, many of which have never been on view outside of Australia.

Virginia Film Festival Announces 2023 Lineup

T​he Virginia Film Festival announces its lineup for its upcoming 36th year, set for October 25-29. The Festival’s Opening Night Film is Maestro. Written, produced, and directed by Bradley Cooper, the film focuses on the relationship between Leonard Bernstein (Cooper) and his wife Felicia Montealegre (Carey Mulligan). The VAFF will welcome makeup effects artist Kazu Hiro (Academy Award winner for Bombshell and The Darkest Hour) to receive the VAFF Craft Award alongside the screening.

One of ‘THE PEOPLE’: Ryan’s Words Included in Democracy Celebration on National Mall

Projected against the back of the National Museum of American History on Wednesday evening was an excerpt from Jim Ryan’s July Fourth speech at Monticello’s annual naturalization ceremony. It was part of the artist Jenny Holzer’s text-based light projection on democracy called “THE PEOPLE.”
