UVA Arts will welcome Ailey II, the next generation of dance, to the Paramount Theatre on October 9 at 7:00pm. Performance is part of residency program that will include lectures and master classes with UVA students and an appearance in the UVA President’s Office “Arts on the Hill” Series.
UVA Arts will present A Standing Witness, a powerful and provocative song cycle collaboration between Grammy Award-winning composer Richard Danielpour and Pulitzer Prize-winner, former U.S. Poet Laureate, and UVA faculty member Rita Dove on Thursday, March 21 and Saturday, March 23 at 7:30 PM at Old Cabell Hall. The piece will feature internationally renowned mezzo soprano Susan Graham along with the acclaimed chamber ensemble Music from Copland House.
The energetic pop-up projections blend UVA’s prominent architecture with colorful lights and music in hopes of providing an uplifting, joyful, impactful, and engaging encounter that will leave you with a bit of wonder, curiosity, and maybe a new shared experience or memory to draw from.
Tina Fey, as the 2023 UVA President’s Speaker for the Arts, will discuss her life and career, the impact of the arts on education, and on the world in which we live during a moderated conversation with the University of Virginia President Jim Ryan.
