I, Too, Sing Charlottesville

My time as a student at the University of Virginia has enabled me to learn about not only the intricate history of UVA but also the dichotomies that exist. Through the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers and various other initiatives, UVA has taken positive steps to acknowledge its complex history. I envision a University that not only tells this full story but also provides a microphone to people whose stories have been silenced and actively promotes equity and social change. There are always more voices and perspectives to hear and I look forward to continuing to listen to my peers and community. This piece (re)presents all the underrepresented populations who sing Charlottesville, too.
