In the following piece I got inspiration from the UVA Seal which is used on exclusive University diplomas and University pageantry. Given its importance I wanted to create a seal that would embellish the UVa student today that best represents me. Every detail of this artwork was chosen for a reason. From the usage of color only on the student, the choice of butterflies, the translation of the words to spanish, the serape on her shoulders, and the location of the image. Even the choice to leave her without facial features. This piece represents the 6% of LatinX students on grounds. It represents my experience as a POC in a predominantly white institute.
